Some people fall in love at first sight. I fell in love at first flight.

Not with a person. With travel. Okay, also with airline meals at one point, but that phase passed quickly.

My real love story began somewhere between packing baby wipes and googling “how to fold a stroller in two seconds while holding a crying newborn at an airport gate.” Because yes, we took our two-month-old on her first trip before she could say “Mumma,” and no, we’ve never looked back since.

While most new parents were figuring out sleep schedules, we were figuring out train timings, flight deals, and how many diaper changes fit into a ten-hour road trip. We zigzagged across India by rail, by car, by air, often with more snacks than sense and zero clue what we were doing. But travel made it all feel right somehow. And just like that, travel went from “someday” to “right now, baby bag and all.”

Since then, we’ve been many things: backpack draggers, map readers, food snatchers, and accidental detour-takers. But more than anything, we’ve been learners. Travel has been our classroom, our therapy, our chaos, our calm, our pushy personal trainer (those cobbled streets in Europe don’t joke around), and a constant reminder that life’s too short to wait for the ‘right time.’

What started as a wild, sleepless, snack-fuelled experiment turned into a way of life. It’s the one thing that keeps surprising me, even after all these years. And trust me, I’m not that easy to impress anymore (thanks, airline food).

It made me fall in love with imperfection, like when we ended up at a silent Buddhist retreat in Thailand, thinking it was a beach yoga class. Or when our fancy dinner in Copenhagen turned into chips on the hotel floor because jet lag hit harder than expected. Or that time in Singapore when my daughter’s ice cream fell, and the world did end… for 30 seconds.

I didn’t start a travel blog to become a blogger. I started it because I couldn’t not write about the way Vienna made my daughter fall in love with history. Or how a stranger in Zagreb made us laugh like we’d known each other for years. Or how the smell of chai in a tucked-away stall in Varanasi felt more like home than home ever did.

These little misadventures are why I started writing. Not because I had it all figured out, but because I was constantly being undone by travel in the best way possible. The blog came from a need to remember the stories, the moments, the magic. And also, let’s be honest, to have a place to vent about delayed flights and bathrooms that required acrobatic skills.

Travel does something to you. It changes how you walk, how you look at strangers, and how you wait for things. It teaches you to sit with discomfort and to make friends with silence. It tells you, quite bluntly, that Google Maps doesn’t always know best.

It completely transforms you. It rewires your brain to seek out sunsets rather than deadlines. It makes you more patient, more curious, and definitely more immune to public embarrassment (thanks to the Bangkok tuk-tuk dance-off).

Travel has a way of sneaking into your bones. You step into a new place, and suddenly, everything feels different, even you. The air smells unfamiliar. Your steps slow down. Your eyes linger a little longer. And before you know it, you’re collecting more than memories; you’re collecting versions of yourself you never knew existed.

There’s something about getting lost on purpose. Or standing in a city you can’t pronounce, or ordering something off the menu without Googling it first. It’s thrilling. It’s messy. It’s beautiful. And it stays with you long after your suitcase is back under the bed.

And somewhere along the way, I realized some moments are too good to let fade. Sometimes, a quote, a line, or a caption is the only way to hold onto them. To bottle them up, not just for the ‘Gram, but for the soul.

So this post is a mixed bag of everything I love: words and wander. Quotes that make you pause. Captions that fit just right. Lines that don’t just go with your photos, but also with your experiences, or say the things you wish you’d scribbled into your travel journal.

The ones that work for your WhatsApp status (no one admits they care, but they totally do), your memories, your moods, your 3 a.m. Instagram scroll, your long layover thoughts, and that tiny heartbreak that hits when a trip ends and you’re just… not ready to come back.

Whether you’re a backpacker, a resort-inclined soul, a travel-with-teens warrior like me, or just someone sitting on a couch daydreaming in pajamas, these quotes are for you.

Because travel doesn’t ask for perfect timing, it asks for curiosity, a dash of courage, and maybe a good pair of shoes.

And okay, also a decent caption once in a while.

Here’s to a traveler in you who still believes there’s always somewhere new to feel at home.

If you think adventure is dangerous, try routine. It is lethal. ~ Paulo Coelho

It had nothing to do with gear or footwear or the backpacking fads or philosophies of any particular era or even with getting from point A to point B. It had to do with how it felt to be in the wild. With what it was like to walk for miles with no reason other than to witness the accumulation of trees and meadows, mountains and deserts, streams and rocks, rivers and grasses, sunrises and sunsets. The experience was powerful and fundamental. It seemed to me that it had always felt like this to be a human in the wild, and as long as the wild existed it would always feel this way. ~ Cheryl Strayed

I don’t like either the word [hike] or the thing. People ought to saunter in the mountains – not ‘hike!’ Do you know the origin of that word saunter? It’s a beautiful word. Away back in the middle ages people used to go on pilgrimages to the Holy Land, and when people in the villages through which they passed asked where they were going they would reply, ‘A la sainte terre’, ‘To the Holy Land.’ And so they became known as sainte-terre-ers or saunterers. Now these mountains are our Holy Land, and we ought to saunter through them reverently, not ‘hike’ through them. ~ John Muir

I began to realize how important it was to be an enthusiast in life. He taught me that if you are interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it at full speed ahead. I beg young people to travel. If you don’t have a passport, get one. Take a summer, get a backpack and go to Delhi, go to Saigon, go to Bangkok, go to Kenya. Have your mind blown. Eat interesting food. Dig some interesting people. Have an adventure. Be careful. Come back and you’re going to see your country differently, you’re going to see your president differently, no matter who it is. Music, culture, food, water. Your showers will become shorter. You’re going to get a sense of what globalization looks like. It’s not what Tom Friedman writes about; I’m sorry. You’re going to see that global climate change is very real. And that for some people, their day consists of walking 12 miles for four buckets of water. And so there are lessons that you can’t get out of a book that are waiting for you at the other end of that flight. A lot of people—Americans and Europeans—come back and go, ohhhhh.
