HAPPINESS.
Such a simple word, yet so complicated to define and even trickier to find, feel, or hold onto, like soap in the shower.
Some days, it feels like a breeze, light, effortless, everywhere. Other days, it’s like chasing the last piece of sunlight before dusk.
Everyone has their own version of it.
For some, happiness is a moment of quiet; for others, it’s laughter echoing through a room.
But the funny thing is, the more you chase happiness, the faster it seems to run.
Like a stubborn little butterfly, it flutters away when you’re desperate to catch it.
And then, when you’re tired of running and when you finally sit down to catch your breath, it lands gently on your shoulder, quiet, unannounced, and perfectly at home.
Sometimes, happiness isn’t just a moment; it’s a person too.
It’s your best friend showing up with ice cream after a rough day.
It’s your mom’s voice on the phone when the world feels heavy.
Or it’s that one person who makes you laugh so hard you forget why you were sad in the first place.
Basically, happiness comes in all shapes, moments, people, and occasionally, a stubborn butterfly with perfect timing.
It’s ironic how we spend so much of our lives sprinting after this idea of happiness, forgetting it’s not out there, it’s right here, within us.
I know, I know… it sounds like one of those overused lines from a self-help book you swore you’d never read.
But just because it’s cliché doesn’t mean it’s not true.
And yet, it’s easy to forget when the world around us keeps shouting that happiness comes with success.
Isn’t it hard to remember this when society links happiness directly to success?
If you’re successful, earning big, winning recognition, living the “dream life,” then of course you must be happy, right?
Well, maybe.
Success gives you happiness.
Money, comfort, and recognition do bring joy.
But let’s be real: isn’t that joy fleeting?
You hit one milestone, feel the thrill, and then what?
The next day, you’re already chasing the next “big thing.”
A bigger goal, a bigger paycheck, a bigger applause.
And if you miss it? Poof. Suddenly, all that happiness feels like it never existed.
I mean, success, money, recognition, they’re great, but they’ll come and go like guests at a party.
Real happiness is when you’re dancing in the middle of the mess without worrying who’s watching or when the music stops.
What I feel is that happiness isn’t a finish line you cross; it’s the mindset, a state of being, you carry while running the race.
It’s finding joy in the process, not just in the outcome. It’s appreciating the journey, the stumbles, the progress, the pauses, without obsessing over the destination.
Because if your happiness always depends on what’s next, you’ll miss out on what’s now.
This is why I absolutely adore the Happiness Is… illustrations by Ralph Lazar and Lisa Swerling.
By the way, I’m so obsessed with their Happiness Is… illustrations that I couldn’t help myself—I’ve put together a whole section just for them. Scroll down to the last bit (yep, I saved the best for last). You can thank me later!
Their work captures joy in the quirkiest, simplest ways, like dipping a biscuit in tea without it breaking (the ultimate win), riding an elephant, or just celebrating Christmas with family.
It’s those little, everyday moments we often overlook, like the smell of a shiny, freshly washed car or the relief of traveling light that turn into pure gold.
You should definitely check out their work. It’ll show you what happiness truly is, it’s not hiding in grand gestures or faraway dreams; it’s right there, tucked into the ordinary, often a quiet hum in the background of our daily lives, waiting for you to notice.
It’s the little things: a sunset that stops you in your tracks, a joke that makes you snort-laugh, or getting so lost in something you love that time forgets to matter.
Pause, look around, and realize, it’s been there all along.
Their illustrations are so heartwarming and soulful that they make you pause and think, “Ah, this is it. This is joy.”
And that’s exactly why I had to mention them here, because sometimes, we all need a little reminder to notice the gold in the everyday.
So, to keep that reminder alive, I’ve gathered some of the best happiness quotes.
Simple words have a big impact, like little sparks that light up even the dullest moments.
Save them, share them, or simply let them sit quietly with you, like happiness itself.

Happiness Is… Finding Joy in the Little Things
All credit for these little slices of joy goes to the brilliant duo Ralph Lazar and Lisa Swerling, the creative minds behind Last Lemon and the Happiness Is… series. They’ve turned life’s tiniest wins—like a power nap or a perfectly dipped biscuit—into illustrations that feel like warm hugs for the soul. I’m just the messenger sharing the gold. Go ahead, enjoy these gems and remember: happiness really is in the little things!
A power nap in the afternoon is my secret superpower. I wake up feeling like a new person… or at least someone who can survive till bedtime.
Feeling good isn’t just about how I look—it’s when I stick to my routine, check off all my chores, and feel like I’m winning at adulting. And when I get through a day without losing my mind…that’s next-level happiness.
Being yourself is the real flex! It isn’t always easy—especially, with all the pressures around and those little insecurities that creep in. But I try hard to show up as me, unapologetically. Some days I nail it, some days I don’t—but happiness is in the trying, I guess.
Having a true friend is like having a safe space where I can be my unfiltered, messy self—someone who knows my quirks, moods, and even my 2 a.m. overthinking sessions, and still sticks around. Over the years, I’ve had great friends, but now I see my truest friend in my husband. He’s my sounding board, my partner-in-crime, and the one who knows me at my best, worst, and everything in between—and still chooses to stick around. That’s happiness wrapped in loyalty.
Give me a quiet corner and a steaming cup of tea, and I’m the happiest person alive. It’s not just tea—it’s my moment of calm, clarity, and a little therapy in a mug. Pure happiness, one sip at a time.
A clean and organized home isn’t just my happiness—it’s my therapy. I like to think I inherited this love for spotless spaces and perfection from my nani (maternal grandmother), though my OCD might have taken it up a notch. Sparkling counters, everything in its place, and that ‘just cleaned’ feeling? It’s in my DNA.
An early morning walk with my hubby is what makes life feel simple and beautiful. It’s our time—no distractions, just steps, stories, and stolen moments of peace. Happiness truly feels like this. Though waking up at 5 a.m. is a battle, and my hubby deserves a medal for dragging me out of bed.
Staying fit isn’t just a goal for me—it’s an obsession with my routine, my love for home-cooked meals, and saying ‘no’ to junk food like it’s an ex I’m avoiding. Perfection? Maybe. Happiness? Absolutely.
I have a not-so-little obsession with cute, colorful stationery and art supplies. Pens, notebooks, washi tapes—I want them all. Tbh, I’m like a kid in a candy store, except the candy is glitter pens, and I’m totally okay with being that mad about it.
I love cancelled plans—like, really. There’s something magical about an empty day stretching ahead of you. It reminds me of Phoebe from Friends saying, ‘I don’t even have a pla.’ Even my T-shirt gets me—‘I’m a vegan, I avoid meet.’
I love books, but I love hoarding them even more. There’s actually a word for it—tsundoku—and I wear that badge proudly. An overflowing bookcase? That’s not chaos; that’s happiness in paperback, hardcover, and everything in between.
Traveling with my family is my ultimate happiness—they’re my favorite travel pals, my chaos, and my comfort. My dream is to see as much of this beautiful world as I can before I die. Seven continents are on the list, and Antarctica is the crown jewel. If you don’t believe how deep this passion runs, just check out my travel blog—it’s all there, one adventure at a time.
Getting a hug from mini-me… well, that’s my heart’s happiest moment… every single time. No words, no explanations—just pure, soul-filling magic that makes everything else fade away.
I picked these illustrations based on what makes me happy, but there are so many more out there—you’ll definitely find one that feels like it was made for you. And here’s the best part: they customize! You can always reach out to the creators and get your own little slice of happiness drawn just for you. Now that’s a happy thought!
——-
To wrap it up… happiness is personal, simple, and sometimes beautifully ordinary. So go ahead—find your happy, hold it close, and if you’re feeling generous, sprinkle it around like confetti. After all, happiness, like a good secret or an extra slice of cake, is always better when shared.
